*Please note that the class descriptions and ages are meant to be a guideline for your child's placement. Please understand that a student may not be best suited for a particular class based on their age but by their level and/or experience. The teachers and director have final say on scheduling.

Deservingly, Jennifer  “baby”  Grey is this seasons winner of ‘Dancing With The Stars’. Along with three time winner Derek Hough, the couple takes the mirror trophy after a season of controversy and disappointment saw talented dancers sent home prematurely.

This Sunday, November 28th the Winner's from the "Open Dance Contest" in October & November will compete against each other in a "Winner's vs Winner's" contest. Four weeks of Winner's competing - Raul & Monica, Jesus & Ana Maria, Khatra Popalzai (Belly Dancer) Shanique, Yvette & Sherry (Girls from Montuno Street). The open contest  continue at the Winner’s Circle Dec 5, 12 & 19th. The contest time is always 10-10:30pm. See more details below.

Watch for the limited release motion picture, “Leading Ladies”.  It stars Latin champion Melanie Lapatin, as she not only acts but choreographs this comedy/dance flick. Also appearing is former ‘ So You Think You Can Dance’  champion Benji Schwimmer.

The American Music Awards big winners this year included Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift, the Black Eye Peas and Usher. The Artist of the year award went to Justin Beiber. 

Tuesday nights just got bigger and better on Long Island with the grand opening of the newly remodeled night club “Avanti”. The party kicks off on December 21st. Avanti Night Club is located at 272 Post Avenue, Westbury, (¼ mile south of Northern State Parkway)  Formerly club Sambuca.

Hey Texans, Jack McClure will be celebrating his 60th birthday in just a few days. They will be celebrating this Wednesday night, December 1st at Chayn’s.  Dancing begins at 8:00,  Hustle and Swing music.  You may even see Jack in the DJ booth!

I saw the video on George Velzquez.  It was wonderful.  He's such an inspiration to us all.  You probably don't know this but I was the audio engineer on the Phil Donahue
Show in the late 80's and they did a show on the Lambada and needed dancers to perform a dance retrospective.  I called my sister and she put together a group and they
performed on the Donahue show.  The group was comprised of my sister, Marie Izzo, George Velzquez, Chuck Fetta and Gail Bloom.  The clip that was shown in George's
video was from that show.  My sister is the girl in the blue dress who is swing dancing with him. This past weekend, George paid a visit to my sister's house in South Carolina.  He spent the weekend with her and her family.  Her children loved him.  He's so positive about everything and so easy to be around.   I can't wait til they finish the movie about him.

Thank you for your thorough  and informative post.  I really enjoyed the u-tube segment featuring George Velazquez.  I am an occupational therapist that incorporates dance into the purposeful activities of my clients.  With the help of Christopher Pilarchek, and Matt Clark, I presented "Dance: and all inclusive occupation that promotes wellness."
 Dance-An All Inclusive Occupation that Promotes Wellness Deborah Rider, OTR/L, CHT & Matthew Clark & Christopher Pilarchek 2 hours –  Dance is a purposeful and meaningful activity with significant health benefits for all ages. It promotes physical, mental and spiritual well being. It is a low cost activity that can be adapted to the individual’s needs and environment. This course reviews the components of dance and its application to occupational therapy. Wheelchair dancing will be demonstrated. Learning Objectives: 1. To identify components of dance as it pertains to the OT framework. 2. To be able to apply the activity of dance as a tool for therapeutic intervention. 3. To become knowledgeable in strategies to adapt dance in order to be accessible to all individuals. 4. Dear Dance Family,
Sincere thanks to all who celebrated my birthday with me at Michael’s Café on November 17.  This year was especially joyful, and I took a few moments when everyone was singing happy birthday to look around at all the people who were there to help me celebrate.  I saw only smiling faces looking back at me, and I was genuinely moved as I heard people cheering during the Happy Birthday song.  I agree – I have a lot to cheer about!  I am so very thankful to be part of the supportive and caring dance community; I am deeply thankful for all the good wishes and cards that I received; I am thankful for and to Natalie who made my delicious cake and DJ Mark who played great music all night long.  I am especially thankful for my return to good health, and – most important – I am thankful for my wonderful husband Andre, who made it his full-time job to take care of me day in and day out with a heart full of love and nary a complaint throughout the last 5 months.  I couldn’t have made this journey on my own, and I thank you all for the love and support you have given to Andre and me.

What a wonderful time we all had at the Top Hat Dance Studio Thanksgiving party!!  The food was incredible and the music a joy!   But most of all, it was the connection of the 100+ Top Hat family and friends that made the night so special.
